Clear aligners smile transformation

What clear aligners are

Clear aligners are custom-made, nearly invisible trays that fit over your teeth. Many people think of them as “invisible braces” because they gradually straighten your smile without wires or brackets. They’re removable, easy to clean, and designed specifically for your teeth and bite.

How aligners move teeth

Your aligners are created as a sequence of trays. You wear each set for about 10 days to 2 weeks (depending on your plan), then move to the next set as your teeth shift into better alignment. Once the movements are complete, you transition to retainers—similar trays typically worn at night—to maintain your results.

Do aligners hurt

Most patients describe the first few days with a new set of trays as “tight” or mildly sore, because your teeth are responding to gentle pressure. This is normal and typically settles quickly. Each time you switch to a new set, you may feel that same tightness briefly—then it becomes comfortable again.

If you ever feel sharp pain or irritation, we can adjust your plan and help you stay comfortable.

How long to wear aligners each day

Aligners work best when worn consistently. We typically recommend about 22 hours per day. You take them out for meals and drinks (except water), then brush and place them back in. Wearing them only “sometimes” slows progress and can cause trays to not fit correctly.

The good news: there are no food restrictions—because you remove aligners when you eat. The key is getting back into a routine: remove trays, eat, brush, and put them back in. This helps prevent plaque from being trapped against the teeth.

Can teens use clear aligners

Yes—teenagers can be great candidates for clear aligners. The biggest factor is responsibility. Because aligners are removable, good hygiene is essential, especially after meals. When teens brush and floss consistently and follow wear-time instructions, results can be excellent.

Hygiene tip for aligners

Brush after meals, floss daily, and clean your aligners gently. Aligners can hold saliva against the teeth, so keeping teeth clean helps reduce the risk of cavities during treatment.

Cost vs traditional braces

Pricing can vary based on your case complexity and the provider. In many areas, aligners can be similar in cost to braces. The best way to get an accurate estimate is a consultation, where we evaluate your bite and goals and outline your plan.

Why dentist-supervised aligners matter

Online aligner programs may look convenient, but they don’t provide the same level of clinical oversight. Before moving teeth, you need to confirm your mouth is healthy—no untreated cavities, gum infection, or bite issues. During treatment, teeth sometimes need mid-course adjustments, attachments, or plan refinements.

With in-office care, you have a team monitoring progress and addressing problems early—helping you protect your teeth, gums, and bite while achieving a straighter smile.

Retainers after aligners

Once your teeth are aligned, retainers keep them in place. Retainers are typically worn at night. This step is important—teeth can shift naturally over time, and retainers help maintain the results you worked for.
